The Bible says Christianity is a "religion":
I have heard the nonsense about Christianity not being a "religion" over and over. This article is going to set the record straight, and shut the ignorants' mouths (from the most popular Christian Ministers all the way to the lowest homeless) once and for all about the definition of the word "religion", and the insults and stereotypes that the arrogants from the Christians keep throwing at this beautiful and blessing word.
Pastors Charles Stanley and other popular Christian Ministers that I watch almost every Sunday night on TV, claim that Christianity is not a "religion" and they picture religions as "pagan" practices. Pastor Charles Stanley almost always talks arrogantly about the word "religion". He once said to the TV camera: "We're not asking you to join a religion. You're not a prospect. You're a person."
Another Pastor always ends his lecture by saying: "We never like to close this broad cast without giving you the opportunity to accept Jesus in your life. We're not asking you to join a religion or church (referring to joining a particular Christian sect). We're asking you to accept Jesus as your LORD and savior. Would you please repeat after me: "Dear Jesus. I repent of my sins. I ask you to come into my heart. I ask you to forgive my sins. I accept you as my LORD and Savior. Amen" Friends, we believe if you said those words you got born again. I recommend that you go get a good Bible base study and tell a friend or loved one about your decision. Until next time, God bless you!"
I also once heard an African-American preacher on the radio saying: "If Christianity is a religion, then I am quitting right now!"
I also at work once asked an old lady about her religion, and she said that she doesn't believe in "religions". She believes in "Jesus Christ" as her lord and savior.
I also had Christians before tell me: "Christianity is not a religion. That's for Catholics." Like Catholics are not Christians themselves.
I really and honestly wonder if these people have ever finished reading their Bible! Let us look at what the Bible says about the RELIGION of Christianity:
"But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does. If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (From the NIV Bible, James 1:25-27)"
"Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need. But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God. The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help. (1 Timothy 5:3-5)"
The quotes above "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless...." and "....put their religion into practice.....for this is pleasing to God" are pretty much self-explanatory and straight forward! CHRISTIANITY IS A RELIGION!!
When Jesus came to the Jews, he came to people who weren't idol worshipers. Moses had to deal with the idol worshiping problems that existed among the Jews, but not Jesus. Jesus came to people who didn't take a single idol for worship. So if these ignorant pastors (with all due respect to my Christian readers) want to define the word "Religion" as an idol-worshiping way of life, then they are terribly and arrogantly mistaken!
Yes idol worshiping is a religion. But religion is not limited to just that. Islam is a religion. We Muslims don't believe in idols, nor do we use them in any way shape or form in our worship. Jews are the same. They don't believe in idols either, and Judaism is a Divine Religion from GOD Almighty. Christians may not agree with the Jews' current way of life (religion), but this doesn't at all make the Jews as idol worshipers. The same applies to the Muslims.
