Shamoun has
written up a lengthy article on Allah and his oaths. This is a main longer continuation of
his argument against Allah in his previous article which can be found here (*), my rebuttal to that article can be found here (*). In this article I will be basically refuting Shamoun's
argument.
He wrote:

We decided
that it would be better to present this topic separately, as opposed to having it buried
in our more lengthy discussions and rebuttals.
My response:
Here is my
rebuttal to that article if Allah is the God of the Bible (*).
Indeed it would be better to discuss this here rather than in your rebuttals, now I can
refute them as I don’t respond to rebuttals as I don’t speak for other people.
So I hope you do indeed write up articles on important topics separately rather than in
the rebuttals, allowing me to refute them all.
He wrote:
Our subject
deals with Yahweh, Allah, and oath making. According to God’s true Word, the Holy
Bible, Yahweh only swears and takes oaths in his own name. The reason why Yahweh does this
is because there is no one, or nothing, greater for him to swear by. Please note carefully
the following statements from the Word of God:
"and
said, ‘By Myself I have sworn, declares the
LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only
son,’" Genesis 22:16
"I have sworn by Myself; the word has gone out of My
mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow…"
Isaiah 45:23
"The LORD has sworn by His right hand and by His
strong arm, ‘I will never again give your grain as food for your enemies; Nor
will foreigners drink your new wine for which you have labored.’" Isaiah 62:8
"I swear by Myself, says the LORD." Jeremiah
22:5
"But
hear the word of the LORD, all Jews living in Egypt: ‘I swear by my great name,’ says the LORD,
‘that no one from Judah living anywhere in Egypt will ever again invoke my name or
swear, "As surely as the Sovereign LORD lives."’" Jeremiah 44:26
"For
when God made a promise to Abraham, because He
could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself." Hebrews 6:13
"For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath
for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute." Hebrews 6:16
The
consistent example set forth in the Scriptures is that believers swear and take their
oaths in God’s name:
"Now
Abraham was old, well advanced in years. And the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
And Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his household, who had charge of all that
he had, ‘Put your hand under my thigh, that
I may make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and God of the earth, that you
will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell,
but will go to my country and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son Isaac.’"
Genesis 24:1-4
"Moses
spoke to the heads of the tribes of the people of Israel, saying, "This is what the
LORD has commanded. If a man vows a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself by
a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of
his mouth." Numbers 30:1-2ff.
"Swear
to me therefore by the LORD that you will not cut off my offspring after me, and that you
will not destroy my name out of my father's house." 1 Samuel 24:21

Scriptures
also warn against swearing by other gods:
"Therefore,
be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses,
turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left, that you may not mix with
these nations remaining among you or make mention of the names of their gods or swear
by them or serve them or bow down to them," Joshua 23:7
Since we live
in a fallen age where everything is not perfect, people often swear by other things
besides Yahweh. Yet the next passages envision a time where all peoples shall swear by the
name of Yahweh alone:
"By
myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be
revoked: Before me every knee will bow; BY ME EVERY TONGUE WILL SWEAR." Isaiah 45:23
"Whoever
invokes a blessing in the land will do so by the God of truth; he who takes an oath in the
land will swear by the God of truth. For the past troubles will be forgotten and hidden
from my eyes." Isaiah 65:16
The Lord
Jesus specifically says that to swear by anything other than God is evil or from Satan:
"Again
you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but
shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’ But I say to you, Do not take an oath
at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his
footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not take an oath
by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let what you say be simply
‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more
than this comes from evil." Matthew 5:33-37
Jesus’
reference to heaven as God’s throne and to the earth as his footstool shows that
these terms are used in connection with the extent of God’s rule, i.e. that God
sovereignly rules and controls all of creation. Jesus is basically saying that a person
should not swear by anything within heaven and earth, by anything that is part of the
kingdom and dominion of God.
We know that
the Lord Jesus’ statement was not a prohibition of all oaths and swearing, since
there are other NT references where many swore and took oaths in God’s name:
"After
this, Paul stayed many days longer and then took leave of the brothers and set sail for
Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had cut his hair, for he was
under a vow." Acts 18:18
"‘Do
therefore what we tell you. We have four men who are under a vow; take these men
and purify yourself along with them and pay their expenses, so that they may shave their
heads. Thus all will know that there is nothing in what they have been told about you, but
that you yourself also live in observance of the law. But as for the Gentiles who have
believed, we have sent a letter with our judgment that they should abstain from what has
been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from
sexual immorality.’ Then Paul took the men, and the next day he purified himself
along with them and went into the temple, giving notice when the days of purification
would be fulfilled and the offering presented for each one of them." Acts 21:23-26
"For
God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without
ceasing I mention you always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God's will I may now at
last succeed in coming to you." Romans 1:9-10
"But
I call God as witness to my soul, that to spare you I did not come again to
Corinth." 2 Corinthians 1:23
"I
am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience testifies with me in the
Holy Spirit," Romans 9:1

Jesus’
statement clearly meant that a person should not swear by anything besides God; and even
then it is better for a person to simply say yes or no since one may fail to do the thing
that one has vowed to do in God’s name, thereby bringing God’s curse upon
oneself:
"Be
not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God
is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few. For a dream comes with
much business, and a fool's voice with many words. When you vow a vow to God, do not delay
paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow. It is better that you should not vow than that you
should vow and not pay. Let not your mouth lead you into sin, and do not say
before the messenger that it was a mistake. Why
should God be angry at your voice and destroy the work of your hands? For when
dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the one you must
fear." Ecclesiastes 5:2-7
"But
above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath,
but let your ‘yes’ be yes and your ‘no’ be no, so that you may not
fall under condemnation." James 5:12
Putting it
another way, Jesus was warning his followers from being careless and nonchalant about
making oaths, preventing them from profaning God’s holiness by failing to fulfill any
oath they make take in the Lord’s name.
Thus, the
overall example and teaching of the Holy Bible is that persons are to swear in the name of
God alone.
Before we
proceed any further we want to address the issue of why people swear at all, why do
persons swear by appealing to God? The purpose for swearing by God, or in God’s name,
is to call him as our witness and the judge of our honesty and sincerity in what we are
saying. The implication is that if I am lying, or if I am not keeping my word, then God
may hold me accountable and punish me. I.e. this is attributing superhuman knowledge
(knowing my thoughts and heart) and power (to punish) to the one we are swearing by. Thus,
properly speaking only Deity can actually be appealed to for the guarantee of my
intentions and thoughts. Therefore it is blatant idolatry, or to introduce a different
term, deification, to use the name of anything else besides God in swearing.
My response:
Well let me
correct Shamoun on his opening statement. The Bible is not God's true word. That is a lie.
The Bible is indeed a corrupt book containing some truth in it, but sadly there are a lot
of lies and inventions and deletions in its pages. Sadly this article is not on the Bible,
so I will just leave at that because I have a lot to say on the Bible regarding whether it
is indeed the full book of God.

Islamic law (shariah), it too sees this very point and views the swearing by anything
besides Allah as idolatry, or the sin of shirk (associating partners with Allah). The
Muslim scholar Ibn Qayyim al-Jauziyyah wrote regarding this very issue:

With the
foregoing behind us we can now turn to the Quran. Within the Muslim scripture we find the
repeated claim that Allah is the same God worshiped by the biblical prophets. The Quran
even exhorts Jews and Christians to acknowledge that the Muslims worship the very same
Deity. All Quranic citations taken from Shakir’s translation, unless noted otherwise:
Say:
Do you dispute with us about Allah, and He is
our Lord and your Lord, and we shall have our deeds and you shall have your deeds,
and we are sincere to Him. S. 2:139
And
do not dispute with the followers of the Book except by what is best, except those of them
who act unjustly, and say: We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed
to you, and our God and your God is One, and to Him do we submit. S. 29:46
Since the
Quran claims that its god is the same God of the Holy Bible we would expect to find them
being in agreement regarding the issue of oath making.
In fact, the
Quran, much like the Holy Bible, provides plenty of examples of Allah making oaths and
swearing to do something. It is therefore not surprising to discover that in one set of
oath making and swearing passages, the speaker, whom Muslims believe is Allah, swears by
the Lord or by Allah:
And
they will not - I swear by thy Lord - they will
not believe, until they have set thee up as judge between them on points where they
differ. Then shall they not find in their own minds any difficulty in thy decisions, and
shall submit with entire submission. S. 4:65 Rodwell
And I swear
by thy Lord, we will
surely gather together them and the Satans: then will we set them on their knees round
Hell: S. 19:68 Rodwell
"[Abraham
supposedly says] I swear by GOD, I have a plan
to deal with your statues, as soon as you leave." S. 21:57 Khalifa
By the Lord then of the heaven and of the earth, I
swear that this is the truth, even as ye speak yourselves. S. 51:23 Rodwell
But
nay! I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests
that We are certainly able S. 70:40
These
passages are somewhat perplexing. Since it is believed that Allah is the one speaking,
with the exception of 21:57, this means that Allah is either addressing himself in the
third person or is referring to someone other than himself. It may even imply that Allah
is multipersonal, that Allah exists as a plurality of divine persons, which means that one
of the persons is addressing the other(s) as Lord, God etc. Or it maybe the human author
of the Quran, perhaps even an angel, who is speaking in these passages. Now we obviously
do not believe that God authored the Quran, or that one of God’s appointed angels
gave Muhammad the inspiration. We only bring up these points for a Muslim to consider and
decide.
Whatever the
case may be, and in whatever manner a Muslim decides to resolve this, the swearing by God
is consistent with the Bible’s teaching that Yahweh swears only to and by himself.
But here is
where the similarities end and the major differences begin. There is a multitude of other
Quranic references where the speaker swears by a host of other things, i.e. Muhammad, the
Quran, the stars, humanity etc. Here are most, if not all, of these oath-making passages:
Verily,
by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and
fro. S. 15:72 Y. Ali
I
swear by the Quran full of wisdom S. 36:2
I
swear by those who draw themselves out in ranks S. 37:1
Suad,
I swear by the Quran, full of admonition. S. 38:1
I
swear by the Book that makes things clear: S. 43:2

swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). S. 44:2
Qaf.
I swear by the glorious Quran (that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah) S. 50:1
I
swear by the wind that scatters far and wide, S. 51:1

swear by the heaven full of ways. S. 51:7

swear by the Mountain, S. 52:1

swear by the star when it goes down. S. 53:1

nay! I swear by the falling of stars; S. 56:75

These
references are quite damaging for the Muslim position for at least two reasons. In the
first place, these texts show that Allah cannot be the same as Yahweh God. Yahweh swears
only by himself since there is none greater, Allah swears by a host of inferior things and
beings. Second, from the biblical perspective the swearing by other things besides God
becomes an act of deification, elevating inferior creatures to the same level of greatness
as God. After all, the reason why Yahweh swears by himself is because there is nothing
greater than him, which means that swearing by things other than God implies that those
other things are on the same level of greatness as Yahweh. It makes these other objects
just as great, just as exalted, as the infinitely great and holy God. Allah is thereby
making creation his equal, turning finite creatures into fellow gods who are comparable to
him in greatness.
My response:
Shamoun has
committed the BIGGEST mistake and fallacy in this article and his argument, his argument
is entirely based on an assumption! Here is what Shamoun says and this is the foundation
of his argument:
Second, from
the biblical perspective the swearing by other things besides God becomes an act of
deification, elevating inferior creatures to the same level of greatness as God. After
all, the reason why Yahweh swears by himself is because there is nothing greater than him,
which means that swearing by things other than God implies that those other things are on
the same level of greatness as Yahweh. It makes these other objects just as great, just as
exalted, as the infinitely great and holy God. Allah is thereby making creation his equal,
turning finite creatures into fellow gods who are comparable to him in greatness.
He makes two
mistakes in one. He first says 'from the
biblical perspective ' I for one
could care less on your Biblical perspective; we are discussing something about Islam, so
therefore it must be taken in an Islamic perspective.
The second
fallacy Shamoun makes is that he ASSUMES: Allah is
thereby making creation his equal, turning finite creatures into fellow gods who are
comparable to him in greatness.
As a result of his first mistake,
which is examining things from a Biblical perspective, this leads Shamoun to his second
fallacy which is to assume that since Allah swears by lower inferior beings. This makes
this inferior beings God and on the same level as God. That is the assumption. Shamoun
assumes that since God swears by something else this makes those things equal to him and
on the same level, and that is what he bases his whole argument on! On an assumption!
The fact of the matter is that when
Allah swears or makes an oath by something else other than himself, this does not mean he
is lowering himself to the level of the object he swears by, or elevates the object he
swears by to his level. Let us see what a few scholars have said regarding Allah's oaths:
According to Tabari,
'Qatadah maintained that, when God swears by certain objects, he does so in view of the
exalted status they have in His eyes.' Qatadah explains 92:2-3 by saying that night and
day are 'two great signs God wraps around the creation'.[7] Dahhak, commenting on
89:2-3, says that God has sworn by other days, and has singled out the day of sacrifice (shaf') and the day of 'Arafah (watr)
because of their known excellence over all the other nights.'[8]
AND
Zamakhshari
makes the following remark about 68:1: 'He [God] has sworn by the pen in order to exalt
it; for it points to the great wisdom that inheres in creating it and making it well, and
because it carries countless benefits and advantages.'[9] God has sworn by 'the piercing
star,' Zamakhshari says in reference to 86:1-3, 'in order to glorify the
extraordinary power and subtle wisdom it is known to represent.'[10]
AND
Razi,
commenting upon 44:2, observes that the fact that God has sworn by the Qur'an is proof of
the excellence (sharaf) of the
Qur'an.[11] He explains 89:1-5 as follows:
Know
that these objects of oath, by which God has sworn, must represent either some kind of
religious blessing (fa'idah diniyyah) or some
kind of worldly good (fa'idah dunyawiyyah) that
would necessitate the offering of gratitude, or a combination of both. Commentators have
accordingly differed sharply in their interpretation of these things, each interpreting
them in the light of his understanding of what is of the highest value in religion and of
the greatest benefit in respect of worldly matters.[12]
AND
His comment
on 90:1-2 is that the oath testifies to the great honour the town of Makkah possesses.[13]
Discussing 103:1, Razi cites four interpretations of the word `asr: 'time', 'the beginning or end of a day,'
'the `asr prayer,' and 'the era of Muhammad'.[14]
The common denominator of all four interpretations, as is evident from Razi's discussion,
is glorification of the MB.

So the fact is when Allah swears by
something else it is not to make himself in the same status of them. When he swears by
something else it is to show their excellence, by their benefits, and importance to us.
There are some differing opinions, none the less the Islamic perspective on Allah and his
oaths on inferior beings does not make the inferior beings on the same level as God.
He wrote:
Muslims may
wish to say that the Bible’s teaching isn’t normative for them, that the
teachings of the Holy Bible do not determine what is correct or incorrect for the
followers of Islam. This response ignores the passages we had cited earlier, namely, that
Muslims supposedly worship the same God of the biblical prophets. Again, consider these
references:
The
same did Abraham enjoin upon his sons, and also Jacob, (saying): O my sons! Lo! Allah hath
chosen for you the (true) religion; therefore die not save as men who have surrendered
(unto Him). Or were ye present when death came to Jacob, when he said unto his sons: What
will ye worship after me? They said: We shall worship thy God, the God of thy fathers,
Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac, One God, and unto Him we have surrendered. S. 2:132-133
Pickthall
And
strive in the cause of ALLAH as it behoves you to strive for it. HE has chosen you and has
laid no hardship upon you in the matter of religion; so follow the faith of your father
Abraham; HE has named you Muslims both before and in this Book, so that the Messenger may
be a witness over you, and you may be witnesses over mankind. Therefore observe Prayer and
pay the Zakaat, and hold fast to ALLAH. HE is your Protector and an Excellent Protector
and an Excellent Helper! S. 22:78 Sher Ali
It also
ignores the Quran’s teaching that Muhammad followed the same guidance given to the
prophets before him:
And
that is OUR argument which WE gave to Abraham against his people. WE exalt in decrees of
rank whomso WE please. Thy Lord is indeed Wise, All-Knowing. And WE gave him Isaac and
Jacob; each did WE guide aright, and Noah did WE guide aright aforetime, and of his
progeny, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. Thus do WE reward those
who do good. And WE guided Zachariah and John and Jesus and Elias; each one of them was of
the righteous. And WE also guided Ishmael and Elisha and Jonah and Lot! and each one of
them did WE exalt above the people. And WE exalted some of their fathers and their
children and their brethren, and WE chose them and WE guided them in the straight path.
That is the guidance of ALLAH. HE guides thereby those of HIS servants whom HE pleases.
And if they had worshiped aught beside HIM, surely all they did would have been of no
avail to them. It is to these whom WE gave the Book and dominion and Prophethood. But if
they are ungrateful for these favours it matters not, for WE have now entrusted them to a
people who are not ungrateful for them. These it
is whom ALLAH guide aright, so follow thou their guidance. Say, `I ask not of you
any reward for it. This is naught but an admonition for all mankind.' S. 6:83-90 Sher Ali
The hadiths
provide an exegesis, an explanation, of the above passage:
Narrated
Mujahid:
That he asked Ibn 'Abbas, "Is there a prostration in Surat-al-Sad?" (38.24) Ibn
'Abbas said, "Yes," and then recited: "We
gave ... So follow their guidance." (6.85,90) Then he said, "He (David) is
one them (i.e. those prophets)." Mujahid narrated: I asked Ibn 'Abbas (regarding the
above Verse). He said, "Your Prophet
(Muhammad) was one of those who were ordered to follow them." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 156

Since
Muhammad was commanded to follow the guidance, the example, the teachings of the prophets
before him then his own teachings must be uniform with the previous revelation; especially
in the matters of the nature and attributes of God, i.e. theology proper. God’s
essence and qualities are immutable, i.e. they never change or cease to be, which means
that the Quran’s theology must be consistent with the previous revelation if it
indeed comes from the same God of the Holy Bible.
My response:
Nice deceptive tactic used by
Shamoun. Typical missionary I must say. Shamoun assumes yet again! The Quran does indeed
tell us to follow the guidance of the former prophets, and tells Muhammad the same thing.
Shamoun believes that guidance was saying Jesus is God. That there is a trinity, WRONG!
The fact is the same message has been sent from Adam to Muhammad, worship one God. The
same message, your corrupted belief and Bible is not that guidance, so you have made the
mistake. We Muslims don’t follow your CURRENT corrupt Biblical perspective. To follow
the TRUE Biblical perspective is to follow Islam. Something you don’t understand. The
only inconsistent book we have is the Bible; the reason why it is inconsistent with the
Quran is because the Bible is corrupt and went away from the truth.
He wrote:
Muslims may
want to also raise the issue of Bible corruption, that these biblical references are

The Torah is
VERY errant and contradictive to that of scientific facts. The first book of Genesis alone
should be enough to invalidate Judaism to any INTELLIGENT person. Sadly, not only is
Judaism still one of the world’s leading religions, but it has spawned the most
insane theism (Christianity). The goal of this page is to expose the inaccuracies of the
Torah, hence shooting down its divine claim. All the verses shall appear in chronological
order. Feel free to copy what ever you wish.
1) The
Genesis 1 creation account conflicts with the order of events that are known to science.
Genesis 1:1 The earth is created before light and stars, birds and whales before reptiles
and insects, and flowering plants before any animals. From science, we know that the true
order of events was just the opposite.
2) “And God said, Let there be light”
(Genesis 1:3) and “. . .And the evening and
the morning were the first day” (Genesis 1 :5), versus “And God said, ‘Let there be light in the
firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night....’ “And God made two
lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made
the stars also… And the evening and morning were the fourth day” (Genesis 1
:14-19). These violates two major facts. Light cannot exist without a sun, and secondly,
how can morning be distinguished from evening unless there is a sun and moon? Christians
try to claim that god is the light he is referring to yet, considering the context it is
quite obvious that the light god is speaking of is the light emitted by the sun. Just
another feeble attempt at trying to rationalize such a MAJOR blunder.
3) God spends
one-sixth of his entire creative effort (the second day) working on a solid firmament
(Genesis 1:6-8). This strange structure, which God calls heaven, is intended to separate
the higher waters from the lower waters. This firmament, if it existed, would have been
quite an obstacle to our space program.
4) Plants are
made on the third day (Genesis 1:11) before there was a sun to drive their photosynthetic
processes (Genesis 1:14-19).
5) “And God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth
grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind…
‘And the evening and the morning were the third day” (Genesis 1:11-13),
versus “And God said, ‘Let the waters
bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life… And God created - great
whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth
abundantly… And the evening and the morning were the fifth day” (Genesis
1:20-23). Genesis says that life existed first on the land as plants and later the seas
teemed with living creatures. Geological science can prove that the sea teemed with
animals and vegetable life long before vegetation and life appeared on land.
6) “And God said, ‘Let the water bring forth
abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in
the open firmament of heaven” (Genesis 1:20). Birds did not emerge from water.
7) "And God said, Let the earth bring forth the
living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, the beast of the earth after
his kind: and it was so. And God made…every thing that creepth upon the earth after
his kind…" (Genesis 1:24-25). Science contends that reptiles were created
long before mammals, not simultaneously. While reptiles existed in the Carboniferous Age,
mammals did not appear until the close of the Reptilian Age.
8) “So God created man in his own image,...male and
female created he them” (Genesis 1:27), and “the
evening and the morning were the sixth day” (Genesis 1:31). If Adam was created
on the 6th day, approximately 6,000 years ago (Bishop Usher’s calculations), then
nobody lived before 4,000 B.C. Prehistoric men would be fictitious. By tracing the
genealogy of Jesus back 77 generations to Adam, the third chapter of Luke also supports
belief in a very young earth. If each man had lived approximately 100 years, then the
world would be no more than 9,684 (7,700 + 1984) years old. If each of Jesus’
ancestors had lived to be 1,000 years old (an age not even reached by Methuselah), the
earth would still be only 78,984 (77,000 + 1984) years old, according to creationists.
9) “And to every beast of the earth, and every fowl
of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth wherein there is life, I have
given every green herb for meat: and it was so” (Genesis 1:30). Carnivorous
beasts and fowl do not eat green herbs, nor were all animals originally herbivores. Simply
consider tapeworms, vampire bats, mosquitoes,
barracudas,
tigers, etc.
10) In
Genesis 1, the entire creation takes 6 days (Genesis 1:31), at the end of which the earth
and its living things are pretty much as they are today. But we know from modern science
that the universe (including the earth and life on earth) evolved slowly over billions of
years.
11) In
Genesis 2:7 humans are created instantaneously from dust and breath, whereas they actually
evolved over millions of years from simpler life forms. Science can in fact trace back
human evolution CONCLUSIVELY 3 .2 million years.
12) God makes
the animals (Genesis 2:18) and parades them before Adam to see if any would strike his
fancy. But none seem to have what it takes to please him. After making the animals, God
has Adam name them all. The naming of several million species must have kept Adam busy for
a while, why Adam would still have to be living for we haven’t even discovered nor
named all the species. Also consider the idea of every living creature being brought to
the Middle East, that would have killed many animals due to climatic changes.
13) God
curses the serpent, making him crawl on his belly and eat dust (Genesis 3:14). One wonders
how he got around before -- by hopping on his tail, perhaps? But snakes don’t eat
dust, do they?
14) “There were giants in the earth in those
days.” Genesis 6:4 But there is no archaeological evidence for the existence of
these giants. Also there is a reference to the “Nephilim” being on the earth.
Which is a term used for half angel, half human. Why is there no archaeological evidence
for the existence of the Nephilim either?
15) Noah is
told to make an ark that is 450 feet long (Genesis 6:14-15). The largest wooden ships ever
built were just over 300 feet, and they required diagonal iron strapping for support. Even
so, they leaked so badly that they had to be pumped constantly. Are we to believe that
Noah, with no shipbuilding knowledge and no shipbuilding tradition to rely upon, was able
to construct a wooden ship that was longer than any that has been built since?
16) Whether
by twos or by sevens, Noah takes male and female representatives from each species of “every thing that creepeth upon the earth”
(Genesis 7:8). Now this must have taken some time, along with expert knowledge of
taxonomy, genetics, biogeography, and anatomy. How did Noah manage to collect the endemic
species from the New World, Australia, Polynesia, and other remote regions entirely
unknown to him? How, once he found them, did he transport them back to his Near Eastern
home? How could he tell the male and female beetles (there are more than 500,000 species)
apart? How did he know how to care for these new and unfamiliar animals? How did he find
the space on the ark? How did he manage to find and care for the hundreds of thousands of
parasitic species or the hundreds of thousands of plant species? (Plants are ignored in
the Genesis account, but the animals wouldn’t last long if the plants died in the
flood.) No, wait, don’t tell me, a miracle happened, millions of them.
17) All of
the animals boarded the ark “in the selfsame
day” (Genesis 7:13-14). Since there were several million species involved, they
must have boarded at a rate of at least 100 per second. How did poor Noah and his family
make sure that the correct number of each species entered through the door and then get
them all settled into their proper living quarters so efficiently? I wish the airline
companies could do as well!
18) The flood
covered the highest mountain tops (Mount Everest?) with fifteen cubits to spare (Genesis
7:20). Where did all the water come from? Where did it all go? Why is there no evidence of
such a massive flood in the geological record?
19) When the
animals left the ark (Genesis 8:19), what would they have eaten? There would have been no
plants after the ground had been submerged for nearly a year. What would the carnivores
have eaten? Whatever prey they ate would have gone extinct. And how did the New World
primates or the Australian marsupials find there way back after the flood subsided?
20) Noah
kills the “clean beasts” and burns
their dead bodies for God (Genesis 8:20). According to Genesis 7:8 this would have caused
the extinction of all “clean” animals since only two of each were taken onto the
ark. So why is it that we still have “clean” animals?
21) God is
filled with remorse for having drowned his creatures in the flood. He even puts the
rainbow in the sky so that whenever the animals see it they will remember God’s
promise not to do it again (Genesis 9:13). But rainbows are caused by the nature of light,
the refractive index of water, and the shape of raindrops. There were rainbows billions of
years before humans existed.
22) “The whole earth was of one language”
(Genesis 11:1). But this could not be true, since by this time (around 2400 BCE) there
were already many languages, each unintelligible to the others.

11:4) According to the Tower of Babel story, the many human languages were created
instantaneously by God (Genesis 11:9) But actually the various languages evolved gradually
over long periods of time.
24) (Genesis
14:14) Abram goes into pursuit looking for his captive relative in the city of Dan. The
problem here is that the city of Dan did not exist until over 300 years after Moses died.
How is it that Abram could enter the city of Dan, when the city did not even exist?
25) Jacob
displays his (and God’s) knowledge of biology by having goats copulate while looking
at streaked rods. The result is streaked baby goats (Genesis 30:37). The author of Genesis
(God?) believed that genetic characteristics of the offspring are determined by what the
parents see at the moment of conception. This is a laughable belief. Ask any animal
husbandrist.
26) Camels
don’t divide the hoof (Leviticus 11:4). This statement is completely moronic for
every TEENAGER knows what a “camel toe” and how it used to describe a specific
split.
27) The bible
says that hares and conies are unclean because they “chew
the cud” but do not part the hoof (Leviticus 11:5-6). But hares and coneys are
not ruminants and they do not “chew the cud.”
28) Bats are
birds to the biblical God (Leviticus 11:13-19 & Deuteronomy 14:11-18).
29) Some
birds have four feet (Leviticus 11:20-21).
30) If there
is a God, there is one thing we know for sure about him: He really likes insects
(particularly beetles). There are more species of insects, by far, than all other species
of life on earth. As JBS Haldane said, “he has
an inordinate fondness for beetles.” Yet insects are said to have four legs in
Leviticus 11:22-23.
31) Unicorns
have never existed, yet they are said to in Deuteronomy 33:17.
32) Fiery
serpents have NEVER existed yet Numbers 21:6 claims they do and TO THIS DAY STILL inhabit
certain cities.

Jesus Christ is
a False Messiah
According to
Jesus’ admissions, as well as the Bible’s prophecies, Jesus of Nazareth could
not have been the Messiah. This of course, would invalidate Christianity as we know it.
The compilation presented here shall be split in three sections. The first shall be the
biblical prophecies that were made in order to identify the messiah, which Jesus does not
fulfill. The second shall be the prophecies that Christians use to say that Jesus was the
Messiah, yet they clearly fail. The third set shall be the prophecies and statements Jesus
made yet they are false and have never came true.
Prophecies to
Identify the Messiah, Which Jesus Does Not Fulfill:
1) Matthew
1:23 says that Jesus (the messiah) would be called Immanuel, which means "God with
us." Yet no one, not even his parents, call him Immanuel at any point in the bible.
2) The
Messiah must be a physical descendant of David (Romans 1:3 & Acts 2:30). Yet, how
could Jesus meet this requirement since his genealogies in Matthew 1 and Luke 3 show he
descended from David through Joseph, who was not his natural father because of the Virgin
Birth. Hence, this prophecy could not have been fulfilled.
3) Isaiah
7:16 seems to say that before Jesus had reached the age of maturity, both of the Jewish
countries would be destroyed. Yet there is no mention of this prophecy being fulfilled in
the New Testament with the coming of Jesus, hence this is another Messiah prophecy not
fulfilled.
Prophecies
Christians Use to Verify Jesus as the Messiah, Yet Clearly Fail:
4) The
gospels (especially Matthew 21:4 and John 12:14-15) claim that Jesus fulfills the prophecy
of Zechariah 9:9. But the next few verses (Zechariah 9:10-13) show that the person
referred to in this verse is a military king that would rule "from sea to sea". Since Jesus had
neither an army nor a kingdom, he could not have fulfilled this prophecy.
5) Matthew
(Matthew 2:17-18) quotes Jeremiah (Jeremiah 31:15), claiming that it was a prophecy of
King Herod’s alleged slaughter of the children in and around Bethlehem after the
birth of Jesus. But this passage refers to the Babylonian captivity, as is clear by
reading the next two verses (Jeremiah 31:16-17), and, thus, has nothing to do with
Herod’s massacre.
6) John 19:33
says that during Jesus’ crucifixion, the soldiers didn’t break his legs because
he was already dead. Verse John 19:36 claims that this fulfilled a prophecy: "Not a bone of him shall be broken."
But there is no such prophecy. It is sometimes said that the prophecy appears in Exodus
12:46, Numbers 9:12 & Psalm 34:20. This is not correct. Exodus 12:46 & Numbers
9:12 are not prophecies, they are commandments. The Israelites are told not to break the
bones of the Passover lamb, and this is all it is about. And Psalm 34:20 seems to refer to
righteous people in general (see verse Psalm 34:19, where a plural is used), not to make a
prophecy about a specific person.
7) "When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and
called my son out of Egypt." Hosea 11:1. Matthew (Matthew 2:15) claims that the
flight of Jesus’ family to Egypt is a fulfillment of this verse. But Hosea 11:1 is
not a prophecy at all. It is a reference to the Hebrew exodus from Egypt and has nothing
to do with Jesus. Matthew tries to hide this fact by quoting only the last part of the
verse ("Out of Egypt I have called my son").
8) "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be
little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is
to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." Micah
5:2 The gospel of Matthew (Matthew 2:5-6) claims that Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem
fulfils this prophecy. But this is unlikely for two reasons.
A)
"Bethlehem Ephratah" in Micah 5:2 refers not to a town, but to a clan: the clan
of Bethlehem, who was the son of Caleb’s second wife, Ephrathah (1 Chronicles 2:18,
2:50-52 & 4:4).
B) The
prophecy (if that is what it is) does not refer to the Messiah, but rather to a military
leader, as can be seen from Micah 5:6. This leader is supposed to defeat the Assyrians,
which, of course, Jesus never did. It should also be noted that Matthew altered the text
of Micah 5:2 by saying: "And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah" rather than
"Bethlehem Ephratah" as is said in Micah 5:2. He did this, intentionally no
doubt, to make this verse appear to refer to the town of Bethlehem rather than the family
clan.
Statements
Jesus Made Which Are False:
9) Jesus in
John 14:12 & Mark 16:17-18 said: "Verily,
verily, I say unto you, He that believeth in me, the works that I do shall he also; and
greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." This implies
that Jesus’ true followers should be able to routinely perform the following tricks:
1) cast out devils, 2) speak in tongues, 3) take up serpents, 4) drink poisons without
harm, and 5) cure the sick by touching them and MANY other of Jesus’
"works". Curiously I have yet to see a Christian that can do any of the above on
demand.
10) In John
14:13-14 Jesus stated: "And whatsoever ye ask
in my name I do, that the Father may be glorified in the son. If ye ask any thing in my
name, I will do it." In reality, millions of people have made millions of
requests in Jesus’ name and failed to receive satisfaction. This promise or prophecy
has failed completely.
11) Paul says
Christianity lives or dies on the Resurrection (1 Corinthian 15:14-17). Yet Jesus said in
Matthew 12:40 that he would be buried three days and three nights as Jonah was in the
whale three days and three nights. Friday afternoon to early Sunday morning is only one
and a half days, so he could not have been the messiah by his own and Paul’s
admission.
12)
Jesus’ prophecy in John 13:38 ("The cock
shall not crow, till thou [Peter] hast denied me
three times") is false. Mark 14:66-68 shows the cock crowed after the first
denial, not the third.
13) In Mark
10:19 Jesus said: "Thou knowest the
commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false
witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother." Jesus needs to re-read the
Ten Commandments. There is no Old Testament commandment against defrauding. The only
relevant statement about defrauding is in Leviticus 19:13 , which says : "Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbor."
This is an OT law, but is not listed with the Ten Commandments. Surely, if Jesus was god
incarnate he would know the commandments.
14) "And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he
that came down from heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which
is in heaven" (John 3:13). If Jesus is in heaven, how can he be down on earth
speaking? Moreover, according to 2 Kings 2:11 ("and
Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven") Jesus was not the only person to
ascend into heaven, nor was he the first. Elijah preceded him and apparently Enoch did
also ("And Enoch walked with God: and he was
not; for God took him"--Genesis 5:24).
15) In Luke
23:43 Jesus said to the thief on the cross, "Today
shalt thou be with me in paradise." This obviously has to be false, for Jesus was
supposed to lay dead in the tomb for three days following his crucifixion.
1 6) Jesus
says : "Ye have heard that it hath been said,
Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy" (Matthew 5:43). This
statement does not exist in the OT either. In fact, Proverbs 24:17 says, "Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let
not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth…"
17) Jesus is
reported to say: "The law and the prophets were
until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into
it" (Luke 16:16). Certainly every man is not pressing to enter the kingdom of
God. The very fact that I am an atheist (one third of the world’s population does not
believe in a god) proves this verse to be false.
18) "Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the
Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?"
(Matthew 12:5) Nowhere does the OT state that the priests in the temple profaned the
Sabbath and were considered blameless.
19) "Yea; have ye never read, 'Out of the mouth of
babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise'" (Matthew 21:16). Jesus is
quoting Psalm 8:2, which says, "Out of the
mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine
enemies…". "Perfect praise" has little to do with "ordaining strength because of thine
enemies." Another misquotation!
20) "But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come,
and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him"
(Mark 9:13). There are no prophecies in the OT of things that were to happen to Elijah.
Jesus, in all
his "God incarnate" wisdom, contradicts himself:
21) Jesus
consistently contradicts himself concerning his Godly status. "I and my father are one." (John 14:28)
Also see Philippians 2:5-6 Those verses lead us to believe that he is a part of the
trinity and equal to his father being a manifestation of him. Yet, Jesus also made many
statements that deny he is the perfect men, much less God incarnate. Take the following
for example: "Why callest thou me good? There
is none good but one, that is God" (Matthew 19:17). "My father if greater then I." (John
14:28) Also see Matthew 24:26 Clearly, Jesus is denouncing the possibility of him being
the Messiah in those three verses.
22) Jesus
said, "whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall
be in danger of hell fire" (Matthew 5:22). Yet, he himself did so repeatedly, as
Matthew 23:17-19 and Luke 11:40 & 12:20 show. Clearly Jesus should be in danger of
hell too?
23) Does
Jesus support peace, or war? Matthew 5:39 "Resist
not evil, but whoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other
also." Also note Matthew 6:38-42 & 26:52 where Jesus teaches non-resistance,
Non-violence. Now read (Luke 22:36-37) Where Jesus commands people to take arms for a
coming conflict. (John 2:15) Jesus uses a whip to physically drive people out of the
temple.
24) Matthew
15:24 Jesus said, "I am not sent but unto the
lost sheep of the house of lsrael,". This would of course mean that he is here
only to save the Jews. The scriptures repeatedly back up this notion that Christ is savior
to the Jews and not the gentiles (see Romans 16:17, Revelations 14:3-4 & John 10). The
contradiction lies in what Jesus later tells his followers: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations"
(Matthew 28:19).
25) Can we
hate our kindred? Luke 14:26 Jesus says "If any
man come unto me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and
brother, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he can not be my disciple."
John 3:15 "Whosoever hateth his brother is a
murderer." Also see Ephesians 6:22, 5:25, & Matthew 15:4
26) Even many
of the staunchest defenders of Jesus admit that his comment in Matthew 10:34 ("I came not to send peace but a sword")
contradicts verses such as Matthew 26:52 ("Put
up again thy sword into his place: for all that take the sword shall perish with the
sword").
27)
Deuteronomy 24:1 & 21:10-14 all say that divorce is allowed for the simple reason if a
"man no longer delighteth in his wife".
Yet Jesus comes along and breaks his father’s law by saying in Matthew 5:32 that
adultery is the only way one can be divorced.
28) In Mark
8:35 Jesus said: "...but whosoever shall lose
his life for my sake and the gospel’s the same shall save it." How could
Jesus have said this when there was no gospel when he lived? The gospel did not appear
until after his death.
29) Matthew
6:13 Jesus recites a revised prayer and states, "Don’t
bring us into temptation." God is the cause of everything, even Satan. God has
been leading people into temptation since the Garden of Eden. Otherwise, the trees of life
and knowledge would have never been there.
30) Matthew
12:1-8 Jesus thinks it’s okay to break his father’s laws, by breaking the
Sabbath day. He states that he is basically exempt for such fiascoes and that he is Master
of the Sabbath.
31) John 3:17
Jesus contradicts himself when he says, "God
didn’t send his son into the world to condemn it, but to save it." Jesus
seems to forget his own stories.
32) James 4:3
If your prayers are not answered, it’s your own damned fault. This is in direct
contradiction to where Jesus says "seek and ye
shall find, ask and it shall be known to you".
33) "If Jesus bears witness of himself his witness is
true" John 8:14, "If I bear witness of
myself it is not true." John 5:31
34) "I am with you always, even unto the end of the
world" (Matthew 28:20), versus "For ye
have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always" (Matthew 26:11 , Mark
14:7, John 12:8) and "Ye shall seek me, and
shall not find me: and where I am thither ye cannot come" (John 7:34). Is this
the kind of friend one can rely on?
35) "And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away
his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her" (Mark 10:11 &
Luke 6:18), versus "And I say unto you,
Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another,
committeth adultery" (Matthew 19:9). In the book of Matthew, Jesus said a man
could put away his wife if one factor-- fornication--is involved. In Mark and Luke he
allowed no exceptions.
36) Jesus is
quoted: "Judge not, and ye shall be not
judged; condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be
forgiven" (Luke 6:37 & Matthew 7:1), versus "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge
righteous judgment" (John 7:24). Jesus stated men are not to judge but, then,
allowed it under certain conditions. As in the case of divorce, he can’t seem to
formulate a consistent policy.
37) "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Matthew
27:46, (also note the time before crucification where Jesus prays for the "cup to passeth over me") versus "Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say?
‘Father, save me from this hour?’ No, for this purpose I have come to this
hour" (John 12:27 RSV). Jesus can’t seem to decide whether or not he wants
to die. One moment he is willing; the next he isn’t.
38) In Luke
23:30 ("Then shall they begin to say to the
mountains, fall on us, and to the hills, cover us") Jesus quoted Hosea 10:8 ("...and they shall say to the mountains, cover
us; and to the hills, fall on us"). And, like Paul, he often quoted inaccurately.
In this instance, he confused mountains with hills.
39) "And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias
truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come
already, and they know him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise
shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto
them of John the Baptist" (Matthew 17:11-13). John the Baptist was beheaded, but
Jesus was not. And what did John the Baptist restore? Nothing!
40) We are
told salvation is obtained by faith alone (John 3:18 & 36) yet Jesus told a man to
follow the Commandments-Matthew 19:16-18 (saving by works)-if he wanted eternal life.
41) In Luke
12:4 Jesus told his followers to "Be not afraid
of them that kill the body." But Matthew 12:14-16, John 7:1, 8:59, 10:39,
11:53-54, & Mark 1:45 show that Jesus consistently feared death. Jesus went out of his
way to hide, run, and attempt escape from the Roman and Jewish authorities.
42) Matthew
5:28 says to sin in "your heart" is
considered a sin in itself. The messiah is supposed to be God incarnate, not able to sin,
yet in Matthew 4:5 & Luke 4:5-9, Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert, which is
sinning in his heart. Jesus also took upon all the sins of the world during his
crucifixion, so how can it be said that "Jesus
was the perfect man without sin"? This would lead one to believe he was not the
Messiah.
43) Jesus
told us to "Love your enemies; bless them
that curse you," but ignored his own advice by repeatedly denouncing his
opposition. Matthew 23:17 ("Ye fools and
blind"), Matthew 12:34 ("0 generation
of vipers"), and Matthew 23:27 (". . .
hypocrites . . . ye are like unto whited sepulchres. . .") are excellent examples
of hypocrisy.
44) Did the
people of Jesus’ generation see any signs? (Matthew 12:38-40) Jesus announced that no
signs would be given to that generation except the Resurrection itself. (Mark 8:12-13)
Jesus announced that no signs would be given to that generation. (Mark 16:20) They went
out preaching, and the Lord confirmed the word through accompanying signs. (John 20:30)
Jesus provided many wonders and signs. (Acts 2:22) Jesus provided many wonders and signs.

45) Jesus
commands the disciples to go into Galilee immediately after the resurrection. Matthew
28:10 Jesus commands the disciples to "tarry in
Jerusalem" immediately after the resurrection.
46) Matthew
28:18 & John 3:35 both tell that Jesus said he could do anything. Yet Mark 6:5 says
Jesus was not all powerful.
47) Jesus
says in Luke 2:13-14 that he came to bring peace on earth. Matthew 10:34 Jesus back
peddles and says he did not come to bring peace on earth.
48) Did
Christ receive testimony from man? "Ye sent
unto John and he bare witness unto the truth. But I receive not testimony from man."

existence on the will of Allah to sustain it, and he emphasizes that he can just as well
destroy them, does there remain any confidence that he will fulfill his promises? In what
way would such an "oath" be binding?

Notice the
mass confusion. Some versions either have Allah not swearing by the objects in question,
taking the no as a negation that he does; or the negation is in reference to something
other than the objects, i.e. that Allah is saying no to either an objection, statement, or
practice, perhaps even to specific individuals. Certain other versions drop the negation
altogether!
Appealing to
the Arabic doesn’t really help since all these versions are translations of the
Arabic text. This means that it is the Arabic which is difficult to understand and/or
translate into English. If a Muslim decides to provide what he/she thinks is the most
accurate rendering this wouldn’t solve the issue. It would simply be just one more
Muslim understanding of the text, another fallible attempt of telling us what he/she
thinks the Arabic is saying at this point. And why would that particular rendering be any
more reliable than the host of other versions out there? It wouldn’t since it would
be nothing more than one other person’s understanding which is being passed off as
more reliable.
My response:
As a matter of fact, appealing to the
Arabic does help, you trying to brush it aside is proof of that. There is one Arabic
Quran, and there is only one way of saying the verse. There is one way in which the verse
is said. The Arabic all have the same words and letters in them. The fact that some people
translate it differently makes no difference. They can translate it whatever they want.
The fact is the one which is most accurate will be taken even if there are 10 billion
different translations. So the fact is that there is one Quran, no confusion. We can also
use the same criteria against the Bible with its different translations in each book!
