Prophet Muhammad lived among pagans who literally worshiped in nakedness!
As I was reading the Hadiths (sayings of Prophet Muhammad), I came across this topic that should hopefully shed some light upon some of the mysterious things that might have taken place during the life of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Let us look at the following narrations.
Note: Kaba or Ka'ba
is the black cube building that you see in Mecca, and "Tawaf" means going
around.
Ibn Abbas reported: During the pre-Islamic days women circumambulated the Ka'ba nakedly, and said: Who would provide cloth to cover the one who is circumambulating the Ka'ba so that she would cover her private parts? And then she would say: Today will be exposed the whole or the part and what is exposed I shall not make it lawful. It was in this connection that the verse was revealed: "Adorn yourself at every place of worship" (vii. 31). (Translation of Sahih Muslim, Book 043, Number 7179)"
Narrated Abu Huraira: "On the Day of Nahr (10th of Dhul-Hijja, in the year prior to the last Hajj of the Prophet when Abu Bakr was the leader of the pilgrims in that Hajj) Abu Bakr sent me along with other announcers to Mina to make a public announcement: "No pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after this year and no naked person is allowed to perform the Tawaf (going around) around the Ka'ba (the black cube building in Mecca). Then Allah's Apostle sent 'All to read out the Surat Bara'a (At-Tauba) to the people; so he made the announcement along with us on the day of Nahr in Mina: "No pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after this year and no naked person is allowed to perform the Tawaf around the Ka'ba." (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 8, Number 365)"
Narrated Abu Huraira: "In the year prior to the last Hajj of the Prophet when Allahs Apostle made Abu Bakr the leader of the pilgrims, the latter (Abu Bakr) sent me in the company of a group of people to make a public announcement: 'No pagan is allowed to perform Hajj after this year, and no naked person is allowed to perform Tawaf of the Kaba.' (See Hadith No. 365 Vol. 1). (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 26, Number 689)"
Narrated Humaid bin Abdur Rahman: "Abu Huraira said, "Abu Bakr sent me in that Hajj in which he was the chief of the pilgrims along with the announcers whom he sent on the Day of Nahr to announce at Mina: "No pagan shall perform Hajj after this year, and none shall perform the Tawaf around the Ka'ba in a naked state." Humaid added: That the Prophet sent 'Ali bin Abi Talib (after Abu Bakr) and ordered him to recite aloud in public Surat-Baraa. Abu Huraira added, "So 'Ali, along with us, recited Bara'a (loudly) before the people at Mina on the Day of Nahr and announced "No pagan shall perform Hajj after this year and none shall perform the Tawaf around the Ka'ba in a naked state."..except those pagans with whom you (Muslims) have a treaty." (9.4). (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 179)"
Narrated Abu Huraira: "That during the Hajj in which the Prophet had made Abu Bakr As Siddiq as chief of the, Hajj before the Hajj-ul-Wida,' on the day of Nahr, Abu Bakr sent him along with a group of persons to announce to the people. "No pagan is permitted to perform Hajj after this year, and nobody is permitted to perform the Tawaf of the Ka'ba naked." (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 649)"
Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported: "Abu Bakr Siddiq (Allah be pleased with him) sent me during Hajj before the Farewell Pilgrimage for which Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) had appointed him an Amir, among a group of people whom he had ordered to make announcement to the people on the Day of Nahr:" After this year no polytheist may perform the Pilgrimage and no naked person may circumambulate the House." Ibn Shihab stated that Humaid b. Abd al-Rahman said that according to this narration of Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) the day of Hajj al-Akbar (Great Hajj) is this Day of Nahr (10th of Dhu'l-Hijja). (Translation of Sahih Muslim, Book 007, Number 3125)"
The Sexually open pagan Arabs:
Aside from the fact that the above narrations clearly and indisputably prove that the pagan Arabs used to be too sexually open, to a point even (I was once told by my father) that men would literally offer their wives for few nights to other more-powerful men in the tribe. It would give more honor and elate the status of a person if his wife slept with, for instance, the chief of the tribe.
So what does any of this have to do with Islam? Well, many wondered on why did Prophet Muhammad, or rather Allah Almighty, allowed for the following:
1- Temporary marriage (muta) (as it is also allowed in the Bible) when the Muslim men went out on foot for 100s of miles away and for long months to battles.
2- Having sex with slave women (as it was also done in the Bible).
3- Prophet Muhammad himself had several slave women and he had sex with them. Yet, he is our highest example. How can that be, some might ask?
4- Prophet Muhammad married a 9-year old girl (as it was also allowed in the Bible), and why did her parents offer her to the Prophet.
The reason girls married at young age is because:
5- Prophet Muhammad is said to have coveted Zaynab bint Jahsh, the former wife of his "adopted son," Zayd or Zaid.

It is important to understand the psychology of the Arabs that both Muhammad, the Prophet, and Muhammad, the male-human, existed in and what impact they had on him and his personality, and how Allah Almighty might have saw the best way to send the Divine Message of Islam to such people. Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, became an official Prophet of GOD Almighty around the age of 43 or so. This means that he existed in this NAKED SOCIETY for 43 long years before he became responsible for the Divine Religion of Islam.
Now the following Notes must be taken into consideration:
1- Most likely, the women that existed back then are similar in looks and shape to the Arab women that exist today; short, skinny and petite. Add nakedness and sexually arousing cloths/garments on top of that, and you would have men who are constantly sexually turned on almost 24 hours a day!
2- It is humanly natural for Prophet Muhammad to, perhaps, have had a great deal of desire for few certain women who looked extremely sexual and beautiful in his society before he became a Prophet and, perhaps, even after.
3- The story of King David, peace be upon him, and his sin that he committed with his neighbor's wife, Bathsheba, proves that the power of lust that some women possessed back then was too irresistible to the Prophets themselves. Prophet Muhammad, by the way, never murdered any woman's husband to later on take her, nor did he sleep with any married Muslim woman. But nonetheless, David's story and its example is very important here to prove my points in this article.
4- During the early days of Islam, Prophet Muhammad is to have coveted (according to the narrations said about him, which could be right and could be wrong since they were written literally hundreds of years after him and his close companions) a woman named Zaynab bint Jahsh, as I mentioned her above, and he thought she was extremely attractive. Perhaps it was the way she used to constantly look to him, even before he became the Messenger of GOD Almighty.
5- Shame and Chastity did not exist among Arabs! And it certainly was not big during the early days of Islam. So it is quite possible that the coveting of Zaynab wasn't really considered a sin back then given the fact that:

that directly prohibit coveting, were not revealed yet. Here is how the Noble Verses
read: "Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And God is well acquainted with all that they do. (The Noble Quran, 24:30)" "And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to their own husbands or fathers or husbands' fathers, or their sons or their husbands' sons, or their brothers or their brothers' sons or sisters' sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male attendants who lack vigour, or children who know naught of women's nakedness. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn unto Allah together, O believers, in order that ye may succeed. (The Noble Quran, 24:31)"

Muslim society became mature and nakedness and open sexuality were finally controlled,
Allah Almighty Decided to cover up the Muslim men and women once and for all by making the
Hijab or Scarf that covers the woman's hair mandatory.
One of Islam's Living Miracles today!
One of the Living Miracles of Islam is that it turned the society of whoredom and nakedness into the world's only Chaste and GOD Almighty-Fearing one! The Muslim women today are all covered up and 95% or more remain virgins until marriage, while their grand mothers before Islam used to go naked in public.
Muslim men and women today are the best examples for modesty and chastity!

Conclusion:
Islam is Divine Religion that proved to be the best and perfect working example for chastity and modesty. Muslims during the early days of Islam had to deal with a literally naked society, where they used worship their pagan gods naked in public. Islam came to gradually end coveting, slavery, fornication, adultery and all other sins and mistreatment to the human-dignity. The gradual ENDING of the Judeo-Christian and pagan SLAVERY is the perfect example for this.
Slavery today doesn't exist among Muslims, while it was at its peak only a century ago among Christians in the US.
Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was not a womanizer, nor was he a pedophile, nor was he an evil person. He was a victim of a naked and lost society that caused him to take few routes that made him look "bad" according to our standards today, such as marrying a 9-year old girl (after her parents' and the whole society's approval) while he was 63. Back then it wasn't shameful, and people knew no shame, and people had no standards. Once the girl's bosoms started showing (her sexually arousing female body parts such as breasts, waist, etc...), then back then, she was ready for marriage.
My point is!
You can't judge the Prophet of Islam, peace and blessings be upon him, based on our standards today! You must understand the standards and the society that he, or anyone else for this matter, existed in in order for you to make a fair judgement about him.
Certainly, living in a naked society where you as a man, if you were a male, encounter some unbelievably sexually attractive women, would cause you to covet few of them and dream about them all night long too. King David, Moses, Judah, Solomon and other Prophets in the Bible certainly fell for that [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6].
So why can't Prophet Muhammad fall for it too when he lived in a far worse society than all of them combined?!
